Thing 17, Organize a Project

I use an app on my iPad called Cozi to complete this to-do list.  Cozi has shared capabilities with other family members.  I will continue using this app to organize other projects, grocery lists and bills.

Thing 21, Be a Reader of Blogs

Be a reader of blogs

I have been reading blogs on edutopia for a variety of topics from blended learning  (getting ideas for my blended learning module) to winter reading with iPad apps.    I also follow Richard Byrne.

Blended Learning,  We are all new teachersblended learning as: a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through online delivery of content and instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace and at least in part at a supervisehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd5X7Kz_Bpgd brick-and-mortar location away from home

Thing 18, Talk the Talk

LMS stands for Learning Management System.  This allows administering, documenting, and tracking classroom activities. Schoology and  elearn courses are Learning Management Systems.  The teacher can view number of logins, completion of activities, discussions read,  responses, etc.

CMS stands for Content Management System. CMS’s are web or programs that allow you to publish and edit content. It allows for collaborative editing, standalone pages, and other features. WordPress is an example of CMS.

Our class is a combination of both LMS and CMS.  Our online class and modules are  monitored, documented, and tracked while students complete each  activity .  However, students can post and collaborate with each other in each module.

Thing 19 , Skype Responsibly

My Skype username is brenda_willingham.  Skype is a great tool to connect with other classrooms within the same school or county.  Skype is not blocked in our county.
It is also free!  It allows students and teachers to connect collaboratively with others and work on joint projects.   I sent out requests to other teachers in this cohort to add to my contacts.  It is my goal to join forces with other teachers and classes to work on cooperative projects.

There are many classes on Skype looking for "pen pals".  Some are looking for partners in a particular location such as Australia or another country that the students are studying.  Some offer field trips or learning a particular skill.  Skype is a great tool for schools or families.  Many individuals skype family and friends.  However, our family connects with most often with Facetime.   I have used Facetime with another teacher in my county to work on an English 9 “Edgar Allan Poe” unit.

Thing 13, Reflect

Wow! I have benefited so much in the course. It has been a great learning experience for me while learning the tools, techniques and applications to help my students.   I have made valuable contacts and been exposed to great resources that enhance my learning experience that are irreplaceable. I am using technology in ways that are beneficial to my students. It is encouraging to see them working so hard on assignments and getting excited about their learning and then seeing them share their knowledge with others.   I also enjoy sharing what I learn with my colleagues to help them use programs and technology.   I am so thankful that I am part of this cohort.
